On the occasion of its thirtieth anniversary, Orion asked thirty writers and thinkers to name one thing we will increasingly need over the next thirty years if humans are going to find a way to live happily, sustainably, redeemably on earth.

Carl contributed an essay on energy future. He wrote, “Big Energy has left us in the past, worshiping a form of energy that has no future, is literally and figuratively dead, an energy path whose one key truth is in its name: fossil fuels.”
